
Firefighters spent over four hours tackling a blaze at a Workington scrapyard.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called at around 11.50am yesterday, Tuesday June 30, to Mossbay Metals on Snape Road in the town.
Fire engines from Workington, Whitehaven, Keswick, Cockermouth and Aspatria fire stations attended plus a water bowser from Maryport, aerial ladder platform from Carlisle East, and three station managers.
The service thanks nearby residents and businesses who followed advice from emergency services to close windows and doors due to a smoke plume during the incident.

The A597 – Solway Road – is closed southbound between Bessemer Way (Solway roundabout) and Senhouse Street.
