Plans for a new Burger King at a South Cumbrian holiday park have been given the go-ahead.

Westmorland and Furness Council has approved plans from Bourne Ltd to convert a section of a single-storey building at Lakeland Leisure Park, off Moor Lane in Flookburgh into a Burger King.

According to planning documents, the proposed branch will only be for holiday park customers.

It will open between 11.30am and 11pm in the peak season and will open at 4pm in the off-peak season.

The proposed development will convert part of a building currently used as offices and a reception area into a takeaway. The rest of the building will be office space.

This comes after the council determined an environmental impact assessment was necessary for a proposed extension of the park in response to a request for a screening opinion from Bourne Ltd.

According to documents submitted to the council, the applicant is considering seeking planning permission for the stationing of static caravans/lodges, the installation of internal roads and the construction of bases for stationing static caravans.

The potential development site is immediately east of the Haven Lakeland Leisure Park and is currently a golf course.

Documents submitted with the request for a screening opinion say there could be up to 50 holiday units added to the site.

The environmental impact assessment will outline all the likely significant effects on the environment of the proposed development.
