People using the Lanes multi-storey car park on Saturday are urged not to panic if they see smoke between 2pm and 4pm.

Crews from Carlisle West Fire Station , Carlisle East Fire Station, Penrith Fire Station, Patterdale Fire Station, Alston Fire Station and Keswick Fire Station are taking part in an exercise between these times.

Synthetic smoke will be used as part of the simulation Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service is running. The service said if people saw it, they shouldn’t panic as all is well.

The car park will remain open to the public, as the fire service is only using a small section, it said.
