Cumberland FA have announced that two of their referees have both received Level 5 to 4 mid-season promotions.

Two West Cumbrians Paul Stephenson and Leigh Musgrave have both worked hard for the recognition.

Scott Taylor, Cumberland FA Referee Development Officer, said: “These mid-season promotions by The FA honour the hard work and commitment shown by two Senior County Referees (Level 5) in Cumberland at grassroots level over the past 12 months.

“Both from West Cumbria, Paul and Leigh are part of our County CORE Group and have spent 2024 refereeing and assistant refereeing around the county, and further afield, and have been rewarded for their performances and dedication.

“I am extremely proud of them both as there has been a lot of sacrifice and a lot of effort put into gaining promotion to Level 4, as the FA criteria states they must referee a set minimum number of games and undertake various online CPD courses.

“They must also pass an online FA Laws of the Game exam appropriate for their level and pass the Level 4 High Intensity Referee Fitness Test.

“Both will now have to attend a Level 4 Development Day at Warwick University before they receive appointments direct from the FA for games out of the county FA.

“We wish them well and all our Cumberland FA registered referees a healthy and successful 2025.”
