The former Wesleyan Methodist Church in Whitehaven

A warning has been issued to people that a derelict church in Whitehaven town centre is not safe and should not be entered.

Copeland Police said they had received reports that youngsters had been gaining entry to the former Wesleyan Methodist Church on Lowther Street.

It has been empty for several years and was put up for sale for £60,000, but was withdrawn prior to last month’s auction.

They said: “Not only may this constitute criminal offences and anti-social behaviour but it is putting themselves in great danger due to the health and safety risk it poses.

“Please suitably advise your children on their behaviour if they have been involved or are thinking of going inside.”
