A former Carlisle office building will be converted into a church.
Carlisle Baptist Church applied to convert Fairview House, at the junction of Victoria Place and Lismore Place, as it said its growing congregation had prompted it to look for new premises.
The church has been established in the city since 1809 and occupied premises on Warwick Road since 1888.
It plans to use the vacant Fairview House as a new church was approved by Cumberland Council this week.
The church aims to create a number of smaller meeting spaces as well as larger open plan spaces for worship within the property.
It will be open between 8am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday, inclusive of bank holidays and employ two full-time staff and 11 part-time workers.
