Mobile phone issues continue in West Cumbria

People in the Whitehaven area are still experiencing mobile phone issues after a mast’s electricity supply was damaged.

People using the EE network in Whitehaven have reported being unable to make calls, send text messages or use mobile data – with some saying the issue has been going on for weeks.

EE said engineers were working around the clock to restore power.

The mobile network provider said the issue was due to damage caused during construction work by a third party to a mains electricity line that provided power to the mast site.

A site inspection to assess the power cables found they had been severely damaged by heavy machinery. It has resulted in a highly complex repair that must be carried out following the correct legal and safety procedures, the firm said.

An EE spokesman said: “This is a highly complex repair and our engineers continue to work closely with the landowner to restore power to the mobile mast as quickly as possible.

“We apologise to those customers in some parts of Whitehaven who are experiencing an issue with their mobile connectivity and thank them for their patience while we resolve it.”
