Plans to expand a Lake District hotel have been given the go-ahead.
The Beech Hill Hotel, near Bowness, wants to extend and refurbish its first floor to provide 15 extra bedrooms, which it said would meet demand.
The Lake District National Park Authority approved its plans today. has approved a planning application for a partial refurbishment and extension of the first floor at the Beech Hill Hotel, near Bowness.
The part of the hotel set for refurbishment is a 1960s extension that currently houses the dining room, a former conference space and general back-of-house storage.
The hotel said: “The building is in poor condition, with significant maintenance issues.
“The current commercial offer does not meet occupancy demands or commercial standards to retain its viability amongst other high quality hotels in the area.
“The proposal to reuse and transform the existing unkempt 1960s structure, represents a sustainable development strategy to deliver the required economic expansion and occupancy demands in both standards and commercial offer.”
The authority recently approved plans to expand the spa at the hotel to add an additional treatment room, a post-treatment relaxation space, a sauna, a salt room and an external pool.
Originally a 19th century residence, the property was converted into a hotel around100 years ago.
Over the last 50 years, the hotel has been extended to provide additional bedroom accommodation and guest amenities, including a spa, pool and restaurant facilities.
