
A new Lake District car park is set to open this week.
The Bluebird Car and Coach Park, in Coniston village, will open on Friday, March 21.
It will have space for 70 cars, EV charging points, disabled parking and reserved spaces for six coaches.
Cars can use the site from this week, while the coach parking is still under development.
At the foot of the Coniston fells and it is operated by Coppermines Lakes Cottages.
It has been created on Lands Field, next to the Herdwick Cafe and to the rear of the Ruskin Museum.
It said: “More than simply a place to park your car, The Bluebird Car and Coach Park will be a hub for sustainable onwards transport and outdoor activities.
“Here, visitors will be able to park safely and responsibly then explore the surrounding area of Coniston, Coniston Water and Coppermines Valley.”
It has e-bike hire, free public toilets, an information point and bus stop for buses into the Lake District.
Coppermines Lakes Cottages added: “Tickets will be on an all-day basis, with no time constraints. We are also hoping to include Tramper hire from the car park so even more people can get out and about.”
The Lake District National Park Authority granted permission for the car park in September 2024 and work began last year.
A new entrance has been created from Yewdale Road and over 2,500 tonnes of Cumbrian gravel, from Shap Quarry, was delivered, laid and flattened across the site, forming the basis of the new surface of the car park.
