Workington Comets team boss James Denham said he was expecting a day of top class racing, as the club opens the 2025 Championship season.
The Championship Pairs will take place on Saturday April 5 (3pm).
A star-studded field will descend on the GT Tyres Arena, where the Comets pairing of new skipper Troy Batchelor and returning Aussie Tate Zischke will hoping to take a record seventh Pairs title – with the most recent being in 2012 with Rene Bach and Adam Roynon.
Denham said: “It’s a huge boost for the club and the local area to be hosting the Pairs, and we’re expecting an incredible atmosphere and a big turnout.
“It’s going to be a day of top-class racing, with some of the best riders in the league going head-to-head, and we’re delighted to have a really strong pairing in Troy Batchelor and Tate Zischke representing the Comets.
“Troy’s experience and ability are unquestionable – he’s ridden at the very highest level and knows exactly what it takes to win big meetings like this.
“Tate, meanwhile, is one of the most exciting young riders in the sport right now. He’s shown immense determination to get back from his injuries last season, and he’s getting better with every lap.”
“We believe they have the ability to be serious contenders on the night but the home support will be massive for them, and if they can get off to a strong start, there’s no reason they can’t be right in the mix for the title.
“We’re looking forward to a fantastic event, and hopefully, we can celebrate a record seventh Comets victory in the event at the end of it.”
The big Championship weekend will continue 24-hours later at Scunthorpe’s, Eddie Wright Raceway, with the best riders in the league competing to be the Championship League Riders Champion of 2025.
Batchelor will be representing the Comets.
Denham said: “This is always a hugely competitive meeting, but if Troy carries on his from last season – he will be in with a serious shout of glory.
“I urge all of our fans to make the journey down the A1 to Scunthorpe to support our new skipper, because not only is it going to be a fantastic opening weekend of speedway, but we have a really great opportunity to bring home some early season silverware.”
