A road will close in Appleby for up to three weeks as work continues on the town’s flood scheme.
Work to build a drive shaft for the new pumping station at Broad Close car park will begin next week and as a result, Chapel Street will be closed to traffic between the dental practice and Low Wiend. Pedestrian access will remain open during this time.
A diversion will be in place with two-way traffic managed by traffic lights on Low Wiend. There will still be access to The Appleby Hub and H Pigney & Son.
Free parking remains available on the site of the former Edenside Care Home.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “We are working to minimise traffic and parking disruption, however for the safety of the public and construction team, it is necessary to close Chapel Street while this work, which we estimate to take three weeks, is completed.
“The temporary car park demonstrates our commitment to supporting residents and visitors during this crucial project to better protect 64 properties in the town from flooding and provide £21 million in economic benefits to Appleby.”
