Firefighters have tackled a barn blaze in north Cumbria.
Crews from Longtown, Brampton, Carlisle and Gretna were called to the barn near Moat, a village near Carlisle, yesterday afternoon, Wednesday March 26.
A large amount of straw in the barn had ignited, Longtown Fire Station said, and fire engines also ferried extra water from Moat to supplement the available hydrant.
Longtown Fire Station added: “With the farmer’s assistance, the straw was moved from the barn to an adjacent field where it was safely spread out and damped down.
“Thankfully the building was not seriously damaged thanks to the hard work of the farmer and fire service.”
- On Saturday, Longtown firefighters rescued nine cows from a slurry pit in Moat and the crew also attended a three-vehicle collision on the M6, between junctions 44 and 45, on Sunday night.
