People are urged to stop speculating about a racial assault in Carlisle that resulted in a boy being arrested.

Cumbria police said investigations were continuing into the incident in the area of Lismore Place on March 26.

The constabulary said: “Officers are aware of speculation regarding the nature of this incident and concerns within the community. At this stage, we would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident.

“Enquiries currently indicate that the incident stemmed from a disagreement between class peers, during a football match at break time, which has subsequently escalated.”

The boy remains on police bail.

Officers continue to provide support to everyone involved, Cumbria police added and neighbourhood policing officers have been engaging with community stakeholders to support the wider community as the investigation continue.

Cumbria police said: “Investigating officers would politely remind the public that is a live investigation, and respectfully ask that people refrain from speculation. Cumbria police will provide updates as they become available.”

Anyone with information relating to thisĀ incident can report online atĀ www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting incident number 183 of 26 March 2025 or call 101.
