Bid for 20-room aparthotel in Barrow

Plans have been lodged to create a new 20-bedroom aparthotel in Barrow town centre.

Sir David Copland Ltd wants to convert the majority of 113-117 Duke Street into the facility, with the ground floor of 113 Duke Street left as a separate self-contained commercial unit.

The developer said it would provide high quality accommodation for potential BAE Systems employees and would support the town through the regeneration of the Grade II listed building.

It would be known as Copland House and each room would have an en suite bathroom and mini-kitchen. The majority of bedrooms would be located on the first and second floors.

The ground floor would have a reception area, communal accessible toilet, a small laundry facility for use by guests and four bedrooms. There would also be an office and meeting room for staff use.

The firm currently operates the aparthotel at the Old Lyric Hall on Clifford Street.

The planning application is undergoing public consultation.
