Three Cumbrian venues are vying to be named among the best in UK at prestigious national awards.
The National Pub & Bar Awards 2025, now in their ninth year, aim to showcase the UK’s finest pubs and bars, each year crowning the best venues across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
The three Cumbrian venues shortlisted in the 2025 awards are Boaters Bar in Bowness, The Black Bull in Sedbergh and The Temperance Inn in Ambleside.
They are among 256 businesses which have been shortlisted across the 94 counties and the winners will be announced in June at a ceremony in London.
Each year, the awards examine several elements that affect the customer journey, including marketing, digital presence, design, service, style of offer and investment.
At the live final, all 256 nominees will come together to celebrate their success, before discovering which venues will go on to become county and regional winners.
The awards will also crown the Pub Group of the Year, Bar Group of the Year, The Tyrrells Tyrrellbly Good Taste Award and, ultimately, the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year.
The 2025 event will launch the Top 10 Pubs & Bars in the UK list, which has been voted for by hundreds of operators from across the country.
James Ratcliffe, co-owner of Sedbergh’s Black Bull, said: “All of us are excited about being shortlisted as a nominee in the National Pub & Bar Awards 2025.
“As a pub, we’re about ensuring every one of our guests can enjoy delicious food, well-kept beer, and quality wines in a building that’s full of character, whilst being looked after by a dedicated team of people who care about what they do.
“All we have to do now is wait until June to see how we get on – so from here on in we’ll have everything crossed until the big day. Good luck to everyone involved, and we’ll see you at the finals in London.”
