A West Cumbrian town’s first ever pride event has been postponed.

Workington Pride is being organised by Over the Rainbow Support C.I.C and was initially set to go ahead this weekend on Saturday April 26 in Vulcan Park.

But organisers have since said the event is unable to go ahead this weekend.

In a statement on social media, the community interest company said: “It is with a heavy heart we have to announce that the first Workington Pride that was due to happen on Saturday April 26 will be postponed.

“Our team have been busy working away to resolve some of the background issues, but unfortunately this has been unsuccessful.

“As a result, we have found ourselves in a position where we are unable to go ahead as planned and will be postponing the event – although we hope to be able to confirm a new date for the event later this year.

“On behalf of the team at Workington Pride, we’d like to thank you for your support and hope you will join us once a new date has been confirmed.”

While a new date is still yet to be confirmed – organisers are hoping to see it go ahead later this year.

The team have promised the inaugural pride will be a vibrant celebration of love, diversity and inclusivity for all while also fostering a sense of pride and belonging while raising awareness of LGBTQ+ issues in Cumbria.
