Hound trailing returns to West Woodburn

Tuesday saw a return to West Woodburn where 46 hounds turned out.

Up first were the Seniors with eight hounds and Silver Dream for Darren and Julie McMaster, and Anthony Skelton and Rodney Raider for Nicola McMaster and David Toddhunter were sent off as joint favourites.

Reports came in from the first road and six had an advantage – Rodney Raider and Embrace for Laura Steele, Andrew and Joel Bullman, and Ian Rumney had a five- yard gap to Flightline for Sarah White and Sir Robert for Malcolm Holmes, with Sportsman for William and Craig Mark and Billy Lindsay in close fifth and the current Senior championship leader, Silver Dream in sixth.

Lyn Garrity with Silver Dream and Nicola McMaster with Rodney Raider joint winners with most points over the two races.

More reports came in from the second road and two had established a lead from the rest of the group – Rodney Raider and Silver Dream.

On to the finish, the two hounds had established an even greater lead and Silver Dream grabbed the win by a head to claim her sixth Senior win from Rodney Raider.

After a gap, Sportsman and Denton Shamrock showed and also had a good race to the line with Sportsman grabbing third and Denton Shamrock having to settle for fourth.

Up next were the Pups with a field of nine hounds, Delta Fortune for Sarah and Baz Harper, and Hartley Robinson was sent off as the favourite.

Once on to the finish Delta Fortune came on well to claim his fourth puppy win in four runs, Denton Phantom for Lee, Hayley, George and Joey Wall, Sandra Mordue and Ted Storrows finished in second and Tucker for Nicola McMaster and Anthony Skelton finished in third.

Up next were the Open Restricted with a field of 14 lining up at the slip, Malfunction for  Sarah White was sent off as the favourite.

On to the finish it was local hound Overwater Hunter for Carole Logan and George Burgon who was leading the race and came on to get the win by two lengths ahead of Light Up for Christopher Henderson. Malfunction finished in third.

The final trail of the evening was the All-In where 15 hounds were slipped. It was the fast finishing Eagle Girl for Mark, Josh, and Georgia Bryden and Linda Neale who took the spoils from Castle Callant for Marti Borthwick, Mary Irving and Amy Brookes. Taking the third ticket was Carole and George’s Tallulah.

Hound Racing resumes today, Thursday May 1, at Lowther Park for Seniors, Pups, Open Maidens and All-In. Seniors slip at 5.45pm.
