Armed police deployed in Workington in search for man reported to have weapon

Armed police were deployed in Workington after reports of a man with a firearm in the town.

Officers were sent out as a precaution yesterday, Saturday May 3, and to search the streets for the man.

Cumbria police said that they received had information from a member of the public who believed a man may be carrying a weapon in the area of Senhouse Street.

Officers would like people’s help to identify the man in the CCTV images and video in connection with the incident.

Armed officers drove up and down Senhouse Street and the surrounding area.

There were searches carried out in back lanes.

Officers also been knocked on doors showing a photo of the man they were searching for.

They also went into the Union Jack Club on Senhouse Street to ask people if they had seen the man.

It is understood police also brought in a dog unit.

Police would like to hear from anyone who can identify the individual in these pictures or the footage above.

They would also like to hear from anyone who can provide information on his location.

Late last night, police said enquiries remained ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the information received.

While these enquiries are conducted, there will be an increased police presence in the Workington area, Cumbria police said..
