Riders enjoyed another sunny night at Carlisle Cycle Circuit this week when Round 3 of Carlisle Cycling Association’s summer series took place.
This week included races for all youth age groups and the association was pleased to welcome a strong contingent of young riders from the North East this week.
They had a good night with Martha Pugh and Zack Stobbs topping the podium in their races. Scottish youngsters had a great night too with the four Stewart siblings Skye, Mitch, Cobey and Josh all winning their races, Zoe Martin victorious in the Under-10s girls race and Izzy Barbour winning the Under-16 girls’ race.
There was a Cumbrian victory too from Oliver Newton in the Under-8 boys’ race.
It was also a night to celebrate for visitors from the North East in the adult race for Category 3 and 4 riders.
Gateshead’s Oliver Halliday turned heads with an absolutely dominant performance, breaking away solo quite early in the race and lapping the entire field in impressive style.
That left the rest of the bunch to fight it out for the remaining podium spots which also went to North East riders. Muckle CC’s Ryan Parkinson took second with his team mate Jake Dobson in third.
Top Cumbrian rider was Ellis Kirkbride in fourth place closely followed by CCA chairman Neil Withington.
Racing returns next week with a veterans race for riders over 40, followed what is expected to be a hotly contested race for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Category riders.
