A Cumbrian veterinary practice team is preparing to tackle the Ullswater Way in memory of a colleague.
The Penrith-based Frame & Swift Ltd team will take on the 20-mile challenge as a tribute to Katie, a veterinary nurse who died in 2021 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The team will walk the Ullswater Way on May 18, as May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month.
They will raise funds for the Brain Tumour Charity and Penrith and District Red Squirrel Group.
The team said: “Katie was diagnosed with a brain tumour after a routine eye test.
“Katie was a big part of the practice, always bright and bubbly with a contagious smile – you may have seen the tree we planted for her outside the practice which has recently been covered in blossom.
“After a long battle with the disease, Katie passed away in 2021, cutting short a promising career as a veterinary nurse.
“The Brain Tumour Charity supports everyone affected by this disease.
“Red squirrels are under serious threat of extinction but The Penrith and District Red Squirrel Group aim to protect them and their environment and increase their numbers in our area.

“At the surgery, we have been tasked with treating injured or sick red squirrels before sending them for rehabilitation and rerelease by this charity.
“Every donation will truly make a difference to these two charities and your support, no matter how big or small, will help us to push through those 20 miles and give back to these important causes.”
