Kendal’s Bootleggers bar will close this weekend, almost seven months after its grand reopening.
The town bar reopened in October last year following a £700,000 revamp.
However, a statement on the bar’s Facebook page said: “The team at Bootleggers have given their everything to make the place work but sadly we haven’t been successful.
“Hospitality is a tough industry and businesses are struggling now more than ever.
“We had a vision to bring the place back to life and do something good for the town but it hasn’t worked out as we hoped so we have decided to close.”
Prior to its reopening by the Westmorland Group, which leased the Market Place venue from Charles Scott and Patrick Brennand, it said it would employ 30 staff.
The statement said all staff had been offered positions at Westmorland Group’s other sites.
Tickets for events after the bar closes on Sunday will be refunded.
The revamp last year included an expansion, with the addition of a 150-seat cafe and restaurant.
The building everyone remembers as Bootleggers remains but Westmorland Group acquired 13 Market Place, next to the Skipton Building Society, which backs on to the old Bootleggers.
A wall was knocked down so it is now all one building. The original Bootleggers featured a snug area, bar and stage and a first-floor balcony with views of the stage.
People are invited to Bootleggers this weekend to ‘drink the bar dry’- as everything must go.
The team added: “Thank you to everyone who has supported Bootleggers and we hope you’ll join us this weekend for a last dance, drink or dine.”
