Two women have been arrested after concerns were raised over modern slavery at a premises in Barrow.
Cumbria police’s Community Serious and Organised Crime unit led an operation yesterday, May 13, at the premises in an area off Duke Street in Barrow.
A woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of immigration offences and a 63-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of modern day slavery offences.
Both women have been released on police bail while further enquiries are carried out.
The activity on Tuesday was part of Operation Axbridge – a new operation in Westmorland and Furness led by the CSOC team targeting serious and organised criminals in the Eden, South Lakes and Barrow areas.
