Blood Bikes Cumbria is hosting a skills awareness event this weekend at Carlisle Airport.
Taking place on Sunday, May 18 from 10am to 4pm, it will include advanced motorcycle manoeuvre courses and taster sessions, Workington Comets riders, Carlisle United’s inflatable football challenge, dealerships, mental health charities, other emergency services and an indoor electric motorcross track.
It was first held in 2022 as a small skills event to freshen up riders’ skills following the winter period and has since grown in size.
Last year, over 300 people attended and the free event is sponsored by Blood Bikes Buddy.
Blood Bikes Cumbria is a registered charity, established by local volunteers formed as a medical courier service to deliver essential blood, urgent medical supplies, for free and out of hours for the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust between premises in north and West Cumbria and hospitals/laboratories in the Newcastle area.
Volunteers also deliver blood and plasma 365 days a year to the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
In critical situations, blood or other medical items need to be delivered urgently in order to save a patient’s life.
Blood Bikes Cumbria can quickly get through busy traffic to reach their destination. For bulky items, or in extreme weather conditions, we use cars to ensure our service is available every day of the year.
Blood Bikes Cumbria funding comes entirely from donations and the service is provided solely by volunteers.
Skills Sessions and IAM Roadsmart taster sessions can be booked on line in advance at www.ticketsource.co.uk/bloodbikescumbria
RoSPA taster sessions can be booked on the day.
