Lake District pharmacy sold for undisclosed sum

A Lake District pharmacy has been sold to a new owner for an undisclosed sum.

Windermere Health Centre Pharmacy, off Lake Road, has been owned by pharmacist David Carter for 18 years.

He put it on the market so he could retire.

The pharmacy dispenses an average of 4,250 prescription items a month and is primarily run by two regular locum pharmacists.

Following a confidential sales process with Karl Clezy at Christie & Co, and with funding sourced through Lizi Bates at Christie Finance, it has been bought by first-time buyer from Lancashire, Ali Awais.

Ali plans to run the pharmacy full-time on a hands-on basis, and introduce additional services.

David said: “I have sold the pharmacy to allow me to retire after 56 years of service as a pharmacist.  I am delighted to sell this pharmacy to an independent first-time buyer.”

Ali added: “I’m excited to have taken over Windermere Health Centre pharmacy and to lead its transformation into a modern, service-driven pharmacy that truly meets the needs of the local community.

“Prior to the takeover, the pharmacy offered limited services, but we’ve already made significant progress by introducing contraception services, free blood pressure checks, Pharmacy First, and free delivery for all our customers.

“This is just the beginning, we plan to expand further with private services such as a travel clinic and weight loss management support.

“I’m passionate about providing accessible, high-quality care and making the pharmacy a trusted health hub for the area.”

Karl, director – pharmacy at Christie & Co, added: “Finding a buyer was more of a challenge for this pharmacy due to its remote location and lower dispensing numbers.

“Another factor buyers had to consider was the high property prices in this popular area of the Lake District.  I am confident the new owner running the pharmacy himself will start to build a successful business by offering new additional services that will enhance patient care.”

Lizi Bates from Christie Finance, said: “It was a pleasure to work with Ali to assist with his first pharmacy purchase and to agree an unsecured deal to help the purchase go ahead.

“Having heard his plans for the site, I am looking forward to seeing him on this new journey and wish him the best of luck. This acquisition was just one of many that Christie Finance Unsecured has helped with recently, be that for the acquisition itself or the initial stock purchase and day one cashflow.”.
