Edinburgh slammed Workington 65-24 at Armadale in the first leg of their KO Cup tie ahead of today’s return in Cumbria.

The Monarchs raced to eight 5-1s and 5-0 in a one-sided encounter with their middle-order pairing of Jonatan Grahn and Kye Thomson both scoring paid maximums.

Thomsen scored 16+2 from six rides while Grahn had five paid wins in his total of 13+5 – and powerhouse reserve Victor Palovaara racked up 20 from seven outings.

Palovaara’s only dropped point came at the hands of Troy Batchelor in Heat 1, with the Comets captain scoring nine points and adding a further win in Heat 13.

Grahn said: “It’s been an amazing night, I’m so happy for the performance from all the guys in the team and also myself.

“Before the season I had a target to score 10 points in every meeting and for sure I did it tonight, all the guys in the team helped each other.”

The teams meet again at the GT Tyres Arena today with Leon Flint guesting for the home side in place of Tate Zischke who is racing in the SGP2 qualifier at Glasgow.

WORKINGTON: Troy Batchelor, Jye Etheridge, Leon Flint, Fraser Bowes, Antti Vuolas, Jacob Hook, Vinnie Foord.
EDINBURGH: Justin Sedgmen, Oskar Polis r/r, Jonatan Grahn, Kye Thomson, Paco Castagna, Victor Palovaara, Mark Parker.
