Workington RNLI was called out to the aid of a vessel taking on water.
The volunteer crew were called by Belfast Coastguard at around 1.15pm today, Tuesday May 27.
The all-weather lifeboat was launched at 1.40pm to assist the 15 metre pleasure vessel, Endeavour, which was around 10 miles due west of Whitehaven.
The all-weather lifeboat arrived on the scene at 2.05pm.
The vessel was managing to make way under use of one of its engines and the lifeboat escorted it back to the safety of Whitehaven Harbour.
Our colleagues from Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were deployed to the harbour, where staff prepared their crane for an immediate lift of the vessel out of the water.
The lifeboat crew and Coastguard remained on scene until all crew were safely off the vessel and it was being winched out of the water by marina staff.
While Coastguard team members were dealing with this incident, they were informed there had been a social media report of a boat adrift in Harrington.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “With no full details and concerns there may be people in need or putting themselves at risks to recover, we were requested to send our second vehicle and half of the team to investigate.
“All boats were checked in the vicinity of Harrington and no cause for concern was found.
“Please ensure any cause for concern like this is reported on 999 to the Coastguard immediately. We would much rather be called and not needed, than needed and not called.
“Similarly, if the issue is in hand, then contacting our operations room on our non-emergency number on 028 9146 3933 to notify us of this may save the need for resources to be sent to investigate.”
