A Carlisle woman banned from drinking alcohol in public has been jailed.
Claire Sproat, 44 of Shaddongate, was jailed for six weeks after she appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court.
Sproat was given a five-year criminal behaviour order on December 20 last year.
The conditions of the order were:
- Not to be in possession of any unsealed vessel containing alcohol in any public place, except inside a licensed premises.
- Not to enter any premises part of the Carlisle Shopwatch/Retailers against crime scheme
She breached the order on May 7 this year after she was witnessed consuming alcohol.
Prior to the order, last summer, she had been given a community protection warning.
Cumbria police said: “Sproat was well aware of the conditions of the order and has showed a clear disregard by consuming alcohol in a public place which we know caused issues for local landlords, business owners, residents and visitors in the town centre last summer.
“The sentence handed to Sproat demonstrates how effective these orders can be, and that those found to be in breach, will be arrested and put before the courts.
“We would encourage members of the public to contact us if someone with a criminal behaviour order breaches their terms. We also ask for anyone who has information about anti-social behaviour and criminality to contact us.”
