A Lake District walker has died while attempting the Coast to Coast route.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out at around 11pm on Monday, June 9.
It was reported that a walker, on day two of the Coast to Coast had not arrived at their accommodation in Borrowdale despite departing Ennerdale Bridge at 8.30am that morning.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team said: “Given the dark, wet and windy conditions, a search was initiated along the various Coast to Coast routes, with focus on the confusing ground between Ennerdale and Honister Pass.
“The weather was atrocious and at points the team was unable to cross normally benign streams due to the high volumes of fast moving water.
“At around 2.30am, the team found the missing person, tragically deceased on Moses Trod below Brandreth.
“Additional resources made their way to the scene, and as dawn broke the casualty was evacuated by stretcher to Honister Slate Mine.
“The team’s thoughts go to the casualty and their friends and relatives.”
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was assisted by seven members of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team due to the large search area and conditions.
