A Workington man has been jailed for committing multiple assaults on his ex-partner and helping to burgle a home while its occupants slept.
Kieran Winder, 32, was one of two men who helped to push a woman through the open window of an address at Rydal Street at 4am on May 12 last year.
A computer was stolen from the occupant — asleep at the time — who later described feeling panicked and worried.
As Winder was arrested that night, he assaulted a police constable and damaged a patrol vehicle.
While on bail he then assaulted his then partner on four separate dates in September, October and November. His violence involved punches to the face.
He also smashed her phone against furniture during one incident.
Prosecutor Tariq Khawam told Carlisle Crown Court today: “She describes, in a statement, feeling terrified, knowing he will continue attempting to make contact with her. She is worried he will hurt her, or find a way to get her attention.”
The court heard he had 45 previous offences on a criminal record which dated back to 2007. His convictions demonstrated a propensity for violence, said the prosecutor.
Winder, of Hunday Court, Workington, had been remanded in custody since November, and had been showing positive progress.
Judge Nicholas Barker imposed a total prison sentence of 26 months. “There has never been a time since you began committing offences that you have ceased to act in a violent way,” the judge told Winder.
Winder was banned from contacting the woman, through the strict conditions of a restraining order, for three years.
