Eight Cumbrian golfers are taking on a 24-hour four nations challenge for a prostate cancer charity.
Head PGA professionals at Penrith Golf Hub Andrew Pickering and Lee Edwards, David Britton, Reuben Gibson, Paul Wilson, Tim Walling, Steve Atkinson and Henry Fenko will travel over 700 miles tomorrow, Friday June 20, to tee up on a course in Northern Island, Scotland, England and Wales.
They are raising funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.
Aged between 50 and 60, the men said they were aware that they had entered the age bracket where the risk of prostate cancer significantly increased and said it was more than just a fundraiser, but a mission is to encourage others to take proactive steps in their health by getting checked early.
The team will be teeing up in the early hours of tomorrow morning at Templepatrick Golf Club just outside Belfast, before hopping back across the Irish Sea to tackle round two at Lockerbie Golf Club in Scotland.
From there, it is a race south by road to Sedbergh Golf Club in England before crossing into Wales to finish at Hawarden Golf Club before the sun goes down.
Andrew said: “As someone both deeply involved in the game and now in the age group where the risk of prostate cancer increases, this challenge means a great deal to me.
“Alongside a fantastic group of golf-mad friends, I’m proud to be taking on this journey across all four nations to raise awareness and vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
“It’s not just about the miles or the courses, it’s about encouraging men to take their health seriously and get checked. If our efforts inspire even one person to take action, it will all be worth it.”
