A £450,000 makeover of Whitehaven’s Market Place and Duke Street have been completed.
The new-look spaces, with seats, planters and new litter bins, were officially opened last week.
The makeovers were paid for by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Sellafield Ltd and Cumberland Council. The schemes were designed by Align Property Partners and work was carried out over 13 weeks by Thomas Armstrong.
Historical interpretation boards, developed to showcase and celebrate the rich heritage of Market Place and the Market Hall and two commemorative stones created by the Whitehaven Heritage Action Group are also part of the revamp.

Leader of Cumberland Council Mark Fryer, said: “This was an exciting step forward for Whitehaven.
“By enhancing the public realm and preserving the area’s proud history, we have not just invested in infrastructure; we have invested in people, place, and pride.
“The support and enthusiasm shown by the community have been truly inspiring. I would like to thank everyone who came along to celebrate with us.”
