Jamie Allen, the Workington Reds forward who turned down a new offer from the West Cumbrians, has signed for NPL rivals Bamber Bridge.

Reds former manager Mark Fell signed Allen after he appeared pre-season as a second half trialist in a 1-1 draw with Morecambe.

Allen, 30, is an experienced forward who spent the previous season with Curzon Ashton in National North and has consistently played at the higher end of non-League football.

Preston-born Allen, who started his career with Fleetwood Town in their youth system in 2012 went on to sign professional and made his Football League debut the following year.

While with Fleetwood he went out to Barrow on loan and scored twice in 17 games while also having five games on loan, and one goal, with FC Fylde.

When he was released by Fleetwood in 2015 he had 13 games for Stalybridge Celtic (three goals) before being signed by National League Southport.

In 68 games with the Haig Avenue side he scored 14 times but when they were relegated to National North he left Lancashire for the first time, signing for Dover Athletic.

Two seasons there saw him play 53 times, scoring seven goals before his contract was cancelled by mutual contract and he came back north to join FC Halifax Town where 88 appearances at the Shay saw him score nine times.

While at Halifax in 2022, he was a contestant on the eighth series of Love Island, lasting until day 51, and on his return his contract with Town was cancelled by mutual consent.

New Reds boss Darren Edmondson had made Allen an offer to stay at Borough Park but once again he has joined a Lancashire club.

For the Reds Allen scored his first goal in a pre-season friendly at Ashington and during the season made 31 starts, with 8 more appearances from the bench, scoring four goals.
