The bomb squad was called in after a suspicious item was found on a Cumbrian beach.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team was called out at around 3.30pm yesterday, Sunday July 6, to a beach to the north of the town after a walker discovered the item and thought it may be ordnance.
The team said: “The team attended to scene, met with the first informant, confirmed the location, and positively identified the items as ordnance.
“Photographs and description were passed to explosive ordnance disposal for further action.”
People are reminded if they see anything that looks suspicious or could be ordnance, they should stand well back, obtain a good description and call 999.
The team added: “Ordnance comes in different shapes and sizes, so anything untoward could be highly dangerous. Do what we do, and leave it to the experts.”
