A collision on the A595 in West Cumbria last night closed the road for several hours.
Cumbria police said the incident happened at around 9.30pm between the Rosehill junction by Parton and Bransty Road.
It is understood it was a multi-vehicle collision and damage was also caused to the road.
Emergency services were called to the scene.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
It is believed the road has reopened this morning.
