Pupils from a north Cumbrian school are celebrating regional athletics success.
The junior boys team from Caldew School in Dalston, near Carlisle, won the final at the North West English School Athletics Event.
It follows the school having the benefit of an enhanced summer programme which has seen a team of international standard coaches joining the PE classes.
Students at the school have also been able to take part in masterclasses during extra-enrichment opportunities within the school day and after school.
As well as the team taking gold, there was also individual success with a year eight student’s event debut bringing home a double victory for the school in the hammer and shotput. plus successes for other pupils,
The school said the results were the first successes funded by the £10 million investment, from Story Group, which was announced last October, which included ambitious plans to maximise the potential of the sporting offer to students.

Mark Butler, head of PE, said: “The funding we have received from Story Group has enabled us to get the best coaches in to support the students, and the success is testament to how fortunate we are to be able to do this.
“In addition, we have been delighted with the hard-work and commitment shown by our students over the school’s athletics season.
“We have been celebrating all of the students’ performances at athletics events and their commitment to extra-curricular sessions.
“During the autumn we will turn our attention to rugby, football, hockey and netball with high quality coaching, mentoring, guest speakers, masterclasses, trips and visits aimed at inspiring our super talented sport stars.”
