A Kendal cafe will reopen next week as a section of flood defence work has been completed.
Waterside Cafe closed on May 19 to allow the Environment Agency to build foundations for new glass panel flood defences have been completed.
The venue had just been taken over by mother and son Sol Gogli and Tomas Sanchez, but the riverside path by the cafe had to be closed for safety.
Environment Agency contractors have completed the construction, which involved using large specialist equipment to drill down to create the foundations for the new wall.
The cafe will reopen on July 14.
When completed, the flood risk management scheme will better protect over 1,920 homes and local businesses in the town.
The flood protection will save £1.2bn million from future flood damage and represents a £277 million benefit to the local economy, the Environment Agency said.
Environment Agency project manager Alex Cowin said: “We would like to thank Sol and Tomas for their patience while we completed this work.
“Our aim is to minimise the impact of the flood defence work on their new venture, and we are grateful to them for their understanding.
“This is a major engineering project, which involves extensive construction work which requires road and footpath closures at times for public safety. However, when completed the new glass panel flood defence in front of Waterside will provide clear views of the river for customers to enjoy.
“We are doing everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum as we continue to deliver the new flood scheme and are offering compensation where businesses can demonstrate their loss of earnings when directly impacted by our work.”
Tomas said: “We are looking forward to welcoming regular and new customers to the café as we re-open.
“We are so grateful for the support we have received since taking over the café which we hope to build upon. We invite everyone to come and enjoy our riverside café.”
