A Lake District mountain rescue team was called out after walkers became stuck while out because their exhausted dogs refused to move.
The group of three walkers had climbed Scafell Pike with their two basset hounds from Wrynose Pass.
At around 8.30pm on July 1, they were forced to call the police for help as their dogs were exhausted and refusing to move.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “The group of three walkers were now getting cold in misty and wet conditions.
“In an awkward location, a full team callout was made, with the distinct possibility of a long night ahead.
“However, it was a very nice surprise to find one of the walkers and the two dogs at Gavel Neese very early into the rescue.
“The owner had managed to motivate them enough to descend after a rest and then followed the lights to Wasdale Head.
“However, the other two walkers had now separated; one returning to Wrynose Pass to retrieve the car and the other – who had gone to get a signal to make the initial call – who was now still on the Corridor Route.
“As some team members were already ascending from Brackenclose, and with the team leader now assisting with directions on the mobile phone, the walker on the Corridor Route was met by the team, descended safely to Brackenclose and was reunited with his friend at Wasdale Head Inn.
“The third walker successfully made it back to the car and then drove around to pick up his friends.
“Thanks to the The Wasdale Head Inn for their support to the team and their kindness to the walkers and of course the very tired basset hounds.”
