A children’s book will be launched this weekend at a special event in Penrith.
Visit the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice’s Penrith charity shop for the debut of Doctor April and the Rainbow Farts by author Lisa Jackson.
The hospice is welcoming families from 2pm on Saturday, July 19, for a joyful celebration of storytelling nestled in their cosy bookshop with the most perfect children’s reading corner – complete with cushions and charm!
This special afternoon will feature:
- A meet-the-author session with Lisa
- A live reading from the book
- A book signing opportunity
Lisa’s first published book is a fun-filled tale about a young girl who visits the hospital and meets the unforgettable Doctor April.
It’s sure to capture the hearts (and giggles) of young readers and their grown-ups alike.
Lisa said: “As well as medicine and rest and care, I also use a sprinkle of kindness and a dash of magic to help.”

It’s a message that beautifully reflects the spirit of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, where compassion, care, and a little bit of magic go hand in hand.
Holly Parkinson, retail operations and development manager, said: “Our shops fund specialist care for local people living with a life-shortening illness as well as supporting their loved ones.
“We are so grateful to have Lisa’s support, and we are thrilled to be launching her first book in our Penrith charity shop. We can’t wait to see you!”

Come along, bring the little ones, and be part of this colourful celebration of imagination and storytelling.
No booking required, if you have any questions, please call the hospice’s Penrith charity shop on 01768 428713 – open 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.
