St John Ambulance is looking for new volunteers to join in South Cumbria.

The charity needs volunteers in Barrow, Ulverston and Kendal as demand for first aid cover at local events continues.

Volunteers in Ulverston and Barrow meet on alternate weeks to receive training, train in first aid skills and prepare to support public events.

New recruits can train as community first aiders, with opportunities to progress to roles including emergency responder and emergency ambulance crew.

A St John Ambulance South Cumbria spokesman said: “Volunteering with St John is a fantastic way to support your local community, meet new people and learn skills that could one day save a life.

“Whether you want to help at local events, build experience for a healthcare career or simply give something back, we would love to welcome you to the team.”

Volunteers in South Cumbria provide first aid and medical support at events across the area, including Barrow rugby matches, concerts and community fetes.

Members can also gain experience at regional and national duties, including the Blackpool Air Show, Premier League rugby, the London Marathon and the Isle of Man TT Races.

No prior first aid or volunteering experience is required for community first aider and emergency responder roles, as all necessary training and guidance will be provided.

Applicants must meet the requirements for the role and may be required to complete relevant checks, including a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
