The Beacon Museum, Whitehaven

Whitehaven’s Beacon has been named among the best attractions in the world by website TripAdvisor.

It has been named a 2025 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award winner, placing it in the top 10% of visitor attractions worldwide.

Tripadvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Award celebrates the best in tourism and hospitality, based on reviews and ratings collected from visitors over a 12-month period.

To qualify, attractions must be listed for at least a year, consistently maintain a rating of Very Good to Excellent (4+ stars) and receive a high volume of positive reviews.

The Beacon also recently underwent a thorough assessment by VisitEngland – the national tourism board responsible for championing the country’s tourism sector.

The museum scored 96% overall, which earned it a nomination for the VisitEngland Gold Award – the highest accolade offered through their Quality Assessment Scheme.

The venue is owned and managed by Cumberland Council.

Heather Holmes, customer and visitor experience manager, said: “We’re honoured to be nominated for a Visit England Gold Award and recognised with a Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Award, placing The Beacon Museum among the top-rated destinations nationally.

“These achievements reflect the team’s commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive experiences that celebrate our local heritage and serve the Whitehaven community and beyond.”
