Whitehaven were beaten 26-14 in their League One clash at Keighley Cougars yesterday after being all square at the break.
The Cumbrians had turned round at 10-10 but could only manage an unconverted try after the resumption as the Cougars pulled clear.
Keighley had started positively and built a 10-0 lead with tries from winger Junior Nuu (15) and centre Junior Sa’u (22), one of them converted by Matty Beharrell.
But Whitehaven came back strongly and two tries from winger Jay Weatherill (30, 38), the second converted by Dan Abram, sent them into the dressing room all square.
The game was really settled within a nine-minute spell in the second half, when Keighley scored three tries.
Brad Holroyd (51) was followed over by Brad England twice (56, 60) and the last two were converted by Beharrell.
By the time Max Anderson-Moore went in for Whitehaven two minutes from time it was merely a statistical note.
Haven coach Anthony Murray said: “It was another frustrating game for us. I thought we played really well in the first half.
“They always show grit, determination and honesty but we went away from what we do best in the second half and they got three tries to move away from us.
“Keighley have some very good players and are probably in a false position in the table.”
