Two Cumbrian Scouts are attending an international event with the organisation.
Olivia Bastow, an apprentice project manager in Barrow, and Phoenix Cleeton, a chemical engineering student from Whitehaven are with almost 500 UK Scouts on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, known as World Scout Moot, in Portugal.
The 16th World Scout Moot sees 9,000 Scouts from across the world, aged between 18 and 25, gather to immerse themselves in Portuguese communities and culture.
It includes a four-day expedition, activities, international cultural learning and skill development at a camp base in Ovar, before the closing celebration and heading back home.
Before they left, Olivia said “I went to the World Scout Jamboree in North America in 2019, and it was honestly one of the best experiences ever – I made so many amazing friends!
“I can’t wait to soak up the culture, meet even more awesome Scouts, and explore everything this incredible country has to offer.”
Phoenix said: ‘’I was born in New Zealand, so I’m most excited to meet other Scouts from there and trade badges with them. I’m also really looking forward to trying new food – I really love seafood so Portugal will be great for that.”
