A sea of sunflowers has been installed at St Bees Priory in aid of Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
The display, which opens today and will be in place until August 17, is to raise awareness of the charity’s palliative and end of life services it provides in the community.
The sunflowers were available to buy and dedicate in memory of a loved one, and dedications will be displayed.
Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides high quality and end of life care to people living in West Cumbria, and all money raised from this event will go towards the care and support given to patients and their families going through the most difficult of times.
Holly Harkness, community fundraising co-ordinator: said, “We are so excited to open our Sea of Sunflowers display to the public, and share this special event with supporters old and new!
“We hope you will be able to join us, whether we have been there for a loved one and you hope to find comfort in the bright display, or whether you are visiting for a family day out by the sea.
“We chose the sunflower because it is the universal symbol of hospice care, representing light, loyalty and love.
“Our display is open to all and we welcome you to come along and enjoy the beautiful setting, which will allow people to find out more about what we do, and provide a special opportunity to support our cause and help us continue to make a difference.”
Sunflower artwork made by the pupils at St Bees Village School will be on display inside the priory.
The ironwork sunflowers are also available to buy and dedicate in memory of a loved one after the event has finished.
You can make your dedication on the charity’s website or by visiting one of its shops in Workington and Cockermouth, or its Therapy and Information Centre in Workington, where you can collect a dedication card.
Once the display has come to an end, supporters will be able to keep their sunflower to remember their loved one and this special event.
