A community clean-up will be held at a West Cumbrian estate next week.
Castles & Coasts Housing Association’s event in Northside, takes place on Wednesday August 13 from 10am to 3pm.
It is part of the annual summer multi-agency programme of Operation Respect events, which aim tackle anti-social behaviour.
People are invited to join in and help spruce up Northside.
There will be litter picking, a communal skip and the option to dispose of large/bulky household items for free, as well as advice on budgeting, housing, crime prevention, health, fire safety, family wellbeing and other issues, free activities and snacks.
Collections of large and bulky items must be pre-booked. Email [email protected] or call 0800 085 1117 by no later than Friday, August 8, and leave items in your front garden on the morning of the event.
Jonathan Proctor, the association’s lettings and neighbourhoods manager, said: “We know how much fly-tipping and litter can really blight a neighbourhood so we’re getting stuck into making Northside a cleaner community that we can all be proud of.
“We would love to see local residents there doing their bit to make this a cleaner, greener place and really getting into the community spirit!”
The association is working with Cumberland Council, Cumbria police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Tivoli and other agencies for the event.
Jonathan added: “We work really closely with all the partner agencies in Cumberland Council’s Local Focus Hub. This is one of the key events in the year, and is always really popular, so we’re really encouraging residents to pitch in and help. You’ll also have the chance to chat to the agencies there on the day about any issues in your neighbourhood, so it’s well worth coming along.”
CCHA’s event last year was held in in Harriston, near Aspatria and saw:
- A 40ft skip filled
- A specialist skip filled with items like soft furnishings
- 30 bags of litter collected
- Vulnerable residents’ gardens cleared, and bulky items removed
