Plans to repair the front of Carlisle Railway Station, damaged in 2023 when a bus crashed into it, have been given the go-ahead.
The collision, which happened at the end of November 2023, saw 75-year-old Roger Denwood, of Cockermouth, taken to hospital with injuries. He died 15 days later.
Two people were treated at the scene.
Network Rail asked Cumberland Council for permission to repair the section of the Grade II* listed building, which forms the main entrance to the station and part of the the WH Smith outlet.
Known as a porte-cochère – or grand entrance – it has six stone masonry buttresses, which support stone masonry arches spanning southeast to north-west.
The collision damaged and displaced several stone block sections and damaged the station’s electric door, window frames and part of the WH Smith store.
Permission was granted yesterday, Tuesday August 5.
