An international market will be held in Carlisle later this month.
The popular event will be in the city centre between Thursday August 21 and Monday August 25.
The event will include a selection of arts, crafts, unique gifts, international food, a bar and the popular Dutch plant seller.
Organised by Market Place Europe, the award-winning International Market is supported by Cumberland Council.
The market will be held outside the Old Town Hall in the new city centre pedestrianised area. Funded by the Government, the work is due to be fully completed by mid to late September.
Andy Pidgen, Market Place Europe’s operations manager said: “Carlisle is a special place for Market Place Europe and the warm welcome we receive from local people and visitors alike is always amazing. There is always something for everyone to enjoy at this fantastic market in the wonderful city of Carlisle.”
Stalls will be open between:
- Thursday August 21: 9am-6pm.
- Friday August 22: 9am-6pm.
- Saturday August 23: 9am-6pm.
- Sunday August 24: 10am-5pm.
- Bank Holiday Monday, August 25: 10am-5pm.
An ancient proclamation will be recited at the Market Cross on Saturday, August 23, at 10am. The proclamation is a declaration of Carlisle’s rights to hold an annual fair in August, originally granted to the citizens of the city in 1352 by Edward III.
A procession, including Carlisle mayor Janette Whalen, the chair of Cumberland Council Andy Semple, sword and mace bearers and other civic dignitaries will make its way from Old Town Hall to the Market Cross in the city centre.
