Over 30 tonnes of waste has been dumped by a Cumbrian roadside.
Westmorland & Furness Council said the incident, near the A590 turn-off for Cartmel and High Newton, was one of the most severe cases of fly-tipping the area had seen in recent years.
It is believed to have been dumped between 7pm on Cartmel Show day, Wednesday August 6, and 7am yesterday, Thursday August 7.
The council said: “We are working with multiple agencies including Cumbria police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, the Environment Agency and internal stakeholders to identify those responsible, and to bring them to justice.”
It said it was urgently seeking information about the incident.

If anyone saw anything suspicious or has any information that may help, they are asked to email [email protected].
All information will be handled in the strictest confidence, it added.
The council said: “Before the waste can be moved, it must first be tested to ensure the safety of our crews during the extensive clean-up operation scheduled to begin early next week.”
