Denis and Jackie Gill with Miterdale Duchess

Tuesday night saw the first of the Rusland trails with a three grade meeting.

It’s a busy week for owners, trainers and enthusiasts with multiple meetings taking place which impacted on the number of runners at each venue.

The senior hounds had a slip of 13 given the number of meetings.

Miterdale Duchess and Huntsman’s Rebel were joint favourites and when the hounds were slipped it’s not long before they pass the trail field.

As they did it was Miterdale Duchess for Denis Pear and Jackie Gill who was leading followed by Saturday’s maiden winner Lucky Lottie for Geoff and Gillian Higgins followed by kennel mate Lucky Moon.

Baroness Ava for James and Ava McClellan was close in fourth place followed by Huntsman’s Time and Huntsman’s Rebel just a few yards behind for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graeme Little.

As they climb up the fell Huntsman’s Rebel had made some ground up and was leading the race from Miterdale Duchess with Baroness Ava and Miterdale Honesty for Sophie Steele now in the running as well.

When they crossed at Rusland Church it was Denise and Jenny’s pair that were leading Rebel and Time with the rest of the runners close behind.

At the next crossing Miterdale Duchess had made ground up and was back in front from Huntsman’s Time, Rebel having dropped back to sixth place.

However as they dropped down the fell Rebel came back in to second place with Baroness Ava still there in third place and Foxparke Honk Honk for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler now in fourth place.

Once onto the finish Miterdale Duchess showed first through the gate and won easily from Lucky Moon who had made ground up to take second place.

Baroness Ava had remained consistent in that she finished in third place with Huntsman’s Rebel having improved to take fourth place.

Miterdale Honesty finished in fifth for Sophie, Katie and Steph Steel with Foxparke Honk Honk taking the last ticket.

The pups went next with a slip of 10, which again was not too bad considering. Huntsman’s Unite was sent off as the odds on favourite although over the last few races the finishing has her down a little.

Once slipped and out on the trail as they crossed at Rusland Church it was Denise and Jenny Bland and Graeme Little’s other hound Jenny’s Chance who was leading the race from Jonty and Evie Moor’s and Jack Thompson’s Nellie’s Pride followed by the favourite Huntsman’s Unite then Jonty and Evie’s other hound Nellie’s Joy.

Glenis and Raymond Farren’s Miss Becky wasn’t too far behind with Denton Phantom next.

Once up on the fell and climbing through to the next crossing Jenny’s Chance and Huntsman’s Unite had developed a slight lead.

They managed to keep this distance from the rest of the following hounds and came on to the finish where Jenny’s Chance finished the stronger to take the win.

The little bitch seems to be improving as time goes on with this being her second open puppy win.

Huntsman’s Unite finished in second place with Denton Phantom making up ground to take third for Lee, Haley, George and Joey Wall.

Miss Becky ran a good race and finished in fourth place with Lee’s other hound Denton Adonis finishing in fifth.

The last ticket went to Sophie Steele’s Miterdale Wow.

The last race was for the open restricted grace and had a slip of 10 runners.

Once onto the trail at Rusland Church it was Sophie Steele’s Miterdale Rambler who was leading the race from Denise and Jenny Bland and Graeme Little’s Huntsman’s Quirk.

The winning team from Saturday was out again with Eleanor’s Lass in third place for Brian Graham and Eleanor Chisholm with local hound Black Eyed Shadow for John Lyon in fourth place. Then there was a small gap to fifth with Foxparke Bugga Boo and Brian Graham’s other hound Reebok in sixth place.

At the next crossing local hound Black Eyed Shadow had moved up to take the lead with Miterdale Rambler in second place.

Once onto the finish Miterdale Rambler had moved back to the front and won nicely for Sophie Steele. Black Eyed Shadow finished in second place with Brian Graham’s Eleanor’s Lass in third place followed by Reebok and Bretton. Lily for Barbara and Geoff Jones finished in sixth place.
