Flimby are the lowest-ranked Premier Division side left in the Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup semi-finals.

The improving village side were involved in the tightest quarter final which went to extra time.

In the end they got through 28-26 in a thriller at Hensingham A.

It could have gone to a golden point sudden death for in the last minute Hensingham scored a try and needed the conversion to draw.

But it was a tough kick for young Dylan Bragg who had landed three earlier and the miss sent Flimby through.

A try from Adam Tyson had put Flimby ahead in the first quarter and at half-time they led 16-12.

Hensingham came back to lead in the second half but from the last play of the game Flimby levelled.

Daniel Fidler chipped through and Blake Miller won the race to get there and touchdown.

It was very tense in extra time with both teams giving everything.

Flimby regained the lead when Dan Weir scored a try and converted to make it 28-22.

The young Hensingham side refused to give in and with seconds remaining scored a try in the corner, but the tough conversion was missed.

Coach Ricky Morrison, who played in this one, said: “The young lads are improving all the time and basically we have the same squad from when we started up last season.

“I think it’s great that they have got us into the league’s major trophy semi-final.”

Oliver Dunn (2), Dylan Bragg, Dylan Cromwell and Henley Donnan scored the Hensingham tries.

Flimby’s try scorers were Carl Grima, Morrison, Miller, Weir and Alex Wilson with Weir finishing with four goals.

Maryport and Seaton, who lead the Premier Division, both got through with plenty to spare.

Maryport won 58-6 at home to Lowca while Seaton were 54-10 winners at Cockermouth.

The Maryport tries were scored by Kieran Featherstone (2),  Danny Dryden (2), Sean Mumberson (2), Attlee Skillen, Lewis Moore, Ellis Nixon and Chris Ivison.

Talented footballer turned talented rugby player Moore kicked nine goals.

Dean Haigh crossed for Lowca with Billy Penrice adding the conversion.

Seaton also topped the half century mark and they scored 10 tries as well.

Ben Postlethwaite (2), Jon Carl Bryan (2), Sam Blair (2), Todd Wilkinson, Owen Ackerley, Lewis Mason and Jordan O’Leary made the touchdowns.

For Cockermouth there were tries from Dan Woodcock and John Patrick, one of which was converted by Woodcock.

Kells A are going to win the First Division title with an unbeaten record and they showed their worth with a 20-10 win over old rivals Wath Brow A.

It was also the annual Cameron Taylor Memorial Trophy match so there was extra satisfaction in winning that particular piece of silverware.

The Kells tries were scored by Aaron Burns (2), Callum Kinrade and Dan Starkie.

Two of them were converted by Blaine Graham.

Hornets tries came from Luke Davison and Evan Alick. Jamie McAllister converted one of them.

A First Division game scheduled for Saturday – Egremont A v Aspatria – was postponed because there was no referee available.
