Man released with no charge as West Cumbria rape investigation continues

A man has been released with no further action in connection with a rape investigation in West Cumbria.

Police are continuing to appeal for information and witnesses as part of an investigation into a report of rape in Castle Park, Whitehaven in the early hours of Sunday.

Police were contacted at 2.30am to report the incident.

The victim, a woman, is receiving support from specialist officers.

A man previously arrested in connection with the incident has been released with no further action.

Detectives are in the area carrying out enquiries and residents may see uniformed officers in the area of Castle Park carrying out reassurance patrols.

Officers are urging anyone who was in the area between 1.25am and 2.30am to get in touch with police.
